Drawing on Nature
April 9 – 11, 2010
Carrizo Plains,
  San Luis Obispo County
Participant Limit: 25
Cost: $250
If you ever wanted to learn to draw or better your skills, don't miss this comprehensive workshop.  The famed wildlife artist, Bill Peters, will be our instructor for this drawing class.  Using pencil, pen, or chalk, Bill’s talent and technique will have you drawing before the weekend’s end!

The Carrizo Plains area, nestled in a high valley between San Luis Obispo and Bakersfield, is home to a handful of year-round human residents, 13 endangered species, from the giant kangaroo rat to the San Joaquin kit fox, and some of California's finest Native American rock art. In spring, it's a wildflower paradise.

We will be staying at the Department of Fish and Game’s Chimineas Unit Headquarters building.  It is a spacious compound with many private rooms, a full kitchen, sunroom, pool and Jacuzzi.  We will be providing dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings.  Breakfast and lunch are your responsibility.

Arrival time is 3:00 p.m. Friday and departure is Sunday after lunch.  The workshop fee covers instruction and accommodations.  You are responsible for your drawing materials.  A list of items to bring will be sent to you two to three weeks prior to the workshop.
Workshop Cancellation Policy:
If you cancel three weeks or less prior to the workshop date, you will forfeit 100% of your registration unless you provide a replacement, or someone on the waiting lists accepts your spot.

This class was a birthday present--a getaway in gorgeous territory in the spring and a chance to try something new.  Bill took each student where she was in her drawing journey, then opened the gates to her advancement.  He's an excellent teacher who covered many core concepts and guided us into success in them.

We were introduced to many drawing elements--everything from charcoal sketching to drawing different trees and flowers to introductory perspective! We worked with many different media, including pen and ink, colored pencil, and pencils of different hardness levels.  He demonstrated everything clearly, then was right there to help when somebody got stuck.

What a great weekend!  The instruction was so good that I've taken two more drawing classes locally.  Bill showed me that an artist at my level needs training much more than she needs talent!  I plan to come back in 2010.”
